I believe doing blog assignment has been an interesting, unique, and effective way to get value from this class. It definitely provides a way for us to communicate and express our ideas and thoughts in an easy and effective way. Since the class time is limited, not everyone gets to express their thoughts or comments on the subject matter. For those students that do not participate in class because they are shy or for any other reason also got a chance to share with the class. Constantly writing on the blog also improves my communication and writing skill.
Most of the time the blog assignment ask us to summarize what we did during activities and discuss about them. I think this is great in which we can read about how other classmates think about the same activity differently in different group or in the same group. This is very helpful to realize my own perception of what happened compare to what other perceived.
I really like reading the articles on the professor's website, mainly because they share many interesting ideas and arguments that I never think about. Replying and commenting on the blog gave me opportunities to express my arguments.
Earning 20% of our grade just by responding on a timely basis feels like it's a giveaway. Because we don't have to study or memorize anything or get stress out like we would for the test.
I would definitely plan to post more management related thoughts on my blog because I had made many friends on blog. Also, I will be taking another management class next semester. This would be perfect opportunity to continue my blog.
In addition, I think we should have more blog assignments (increase to 30%) with only one test during the semester. The only problem I had with blog is that sometimes the comments I reply to classmate's blog didn't get posted. So I have to type up the comments again. This might be my own internet problem or the blog.

Since I'm a management major, I will be taking management courses next semester as well. I hope that my other management courses are as interesting like this one. Although blogging at first seem a bit of a dread for me, I learned to like them. It was very interesting that we got to share our thoughts about class activities and find a common ground. Even though in class we might of never said "hi", through blogging many of us learned a little more about each other and that is pretty cool.
ReplyDeleteLike you stated, "For those students that do not participate in class because they are shy or for any other reason also got a chance to share with the class." I agree. I think the blogs are a great way to communicate your view of both the class discussions and the group projects to both the professor and your peers. I do not speak much in class, but I feel as though I do contribute through the blogs. In addition, I agree with you when you were talking about the gorup projects. The blogs give us time to reflect on what we did and how it realtes to the class in addition to learning from our classmates experiences.
ReplyDeleteI also like that the blogs count for 20%. It is an easy way to get credit for the class without putting hours and hours of study time in each week.
Good luck on your finals!
I think it would be pretty demanding to increase the blogging percentage to 30% and having only 1 exam. I personally spend most of my time working and scramming to get to school on time so I don't usually have a lot of time to sit down, collect my thoughts, and blog them. I like the idea of having 2 exams. At least that way I'm more able to allocate my time.
